The Sun Online (www.thesun.co.uk) has become the first national UK newspaper website to harness the potential of the Sony PSP and feature exclusive movie content as a download.

The site will feature exclusive footage from Optimum's Wolf Creek, the Australia-based horror film, released on September 16. Readers can download footage that will not be available anywhere else or in any other format.

Danny Rogers, marketing manager at The Sun Online said: "We are always looking for new and exciting ways to deliver content to our users and this is a natural progression for us.

"We were the first national newspaper website to offer streamed TV news and showbiz bulletins with our partner PA and now we are the first to give our readers exclusive free Sony PSP downloads with the release of Wolf Creek."

Greenroom Digital is the company behind the online publicity campaign for Wolf Creek and provides the technology behind the download.

Victoria Keeble, head of film at Greenroom, said: "The tools that we use to market films are rapidly changing and keeping on top of new technology is crucial. This partnership is a result of that ever-changing environment and proves how new technology is shaping the way the media delivers content."

As the official online media partner, The Sun Online will support the release of Wolf Creek by building a dedicated microsite for the film. This will host a range of content including a competition, the film's trailer and an image gallery. In return, Sun branding will feature on all the film's above-the-line advertising.

Danny Perkins, head of distribution at Optimum Releasing said: "We are careful to choose partners that really understand our films and the marketing plan behind them. Working with The Sun and Greenroom means we have the chance to put into practice some of the exciting new technologies we're currently interested in."
